By An explosion and fire in an Okla homa coal mine, eight men were killed and many others imprisoned in the mine, all o f whom may perish. L ittle Rock, A rk .— Seven persons are known to have been killed and more than a score injured in a tornado which swept portions o f Lincoln, J e f ferson and Arkansas counties. The greatest destruction was reported near A lm yria in the prairie and rice lands o f Arkansas county. Mrs. Ed Johnson, her three children, a hired man named McClain, and an un identified stranger who was at the Johnson home, w ere killed. The hus band and an infant child were severely injured. A score more per sons w ere injured when their homes were destroyed. A child by the name o f Hamilton is known to have been killed near Swan Lake, Ark. Seven injured were placed on a re lie f train to be taken to a hospital at Pine Bluff. A t Terry, in the northern part o f Lincoln county, several residences were destroyed, and Dr. W illiam s and his w ife were caught in the wreckage o f their home, both being injured ser iously. Baker— So successful has been the first year o f ownership o f the Rain bow mine by the United Sm elting & Refining company that extensive im provements are planned. Anderson, chief field engineer and Howard S. Lee, engineer in charge o f the Rainbow, were here in consultation with officials o f the Humboldt Consol idated Gold Mining company, which controls the Humboldt mine and with Assistant Manager W right, o f the Oregon-Idaho L igh t & Power com pany, in regard to gettin g power for these and other mines in the Mormon Basin country. It is reported that the United States company has already ordered three boilers o f large capacity for the mill, which means one o f the most beneficial steps to the mining industry in recent years.
